There’s a painting that hangs on our wall. It was one that I painted for my husband after we miscarried our baby. It shows my husband and I and our baby, shown as a toddler, walking hand in hand towards what could be described as heaven. I’m not the best painter by any means, although I enjoy it. It was a painting that helped provide healing in a very difficult chapter for me and a gift from me that my husband cherishes. This painting was healing for him too. I often will work through things in writing, songs, drawings, paintings, and especially spending time with God. Prayer is huge to me. These are my healthy ways of processing and dealing with things that are difficult. I think as humans we need to have healthy outlets, especially when things feel hard. Though I know for certain, we always need God. Though I do believe God provides many healthy options for also helping through tough stuff. Friend, life is a journey, filled with many chapters. Some good, some hard, some a mix of both. Although God is always with us through it all. We should first and foremost, spend time with God. Then use the things he gives us to help. Whether it be, music, reading, writing, dancing, maybe just creating something. As long as these things don’t go against God, they can be great tools to help us navigate hard times, and also stay connected to God through them. The painting hangs on our wall and I look at it frequently and somehow; it seems to help when I miss our baby. Maybe a reminder that this isn’t the end, I’ll see our baby in heaven someday. I think God knew I needed that, that my husband and I both did, and I thank Him for allowing me to paint it.
