Grace

Newly washed floors versus freshly baked chicken and homemade macaroni and cheese. Needless to say, I got to wash the floors, twice. As I leaned over picking up the chicken and noodles piece by piece, I just started laughing. My youngest son, confused as to how he had just managed to decorate our floor with his whole plate of food, was left with an empty plate. I laughed and joked about the irony of the mess as the floors had just got cleaned, and we all found the humor in it. I gave my son my chicken, as that’s all that was left of that, and told him there was extra of everything else and to just go make himself a new plate. We all made the most of it! It wasn’t intentional and neither my husband and I were upset with him. We all just laughed as my husband and I cleaned it up, and our son was grateful there was more food that he could get. Friend, there is no use getting angry over something like that. Sometimes we just have to find the humor in such things. It was an accident and it showed our son that it’s okay to make mistakes. That we are human and even at our best, sometimes those things just happen. It can be easy at times to get frustrated about things that we shouldn’t. How often has God given us grace over big things? More times than we probably even realize! So surely, we can offer grace to one another, especially over the little things. In a world that can be so negative if we let it, may we laugh when we can, or at the very least offer some grace. My son ate all his food, his belly was full, the floor was washed again, and we all got to have a good laugh.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Proverbs 15:15 NIV

All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.
