Use wisdom

Be careful not to entertain pity parties, they’re not as fun as they sound. It is all too easy to get caught up in our feelings when things do not go as hoped or planned. Or even if someone upsets us. Or maybe something from our past. It can be difficult at times to remain level-headed and use biblical wisdom when we want to use our feelings instead. Naturally, we have a tendency to sit in our emotions and base our reactions off of them, although it often makes things worse. On the contrary, I have learned, it is so much better when we do choose biblical wisdom and go to God to help us work through whatever is upsetting us. Feelings are normal and healthy! Though we must be careful on how we choose to handle them. I caught myself just the other day, wallowing in my self-pity, and it only made me feel worse. Though sometime later, I was given an opportunity to react with my emotions, or to also use biblical wisdom. I chose to apply wisdom with my emotions and what could have escalated into a big deal, became an opportunity for growth and grace. Friend, emotions and feelings are so important and make us human. However, we must remember to use biblical wisdom alongside them. Most importantly, to go to God and have Him give us insight on how to best handle them. Pause and prayer are two powerful tools. For a pity party will only make us feel more pitiful, but wisdom from God is always something to celebrate.

Use wisdom!

Proverbs 29:11 NIV

Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.

Proverbs 17:27 NIV

The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.

James 1:5 NIV

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
