
I recently heard a song, although only partial of it, as it was a background song in a video that I was watching. I liked how it sounded and so I looked it up. As I was not quite sure what the song was actually about, I read the lyrics. From there, I realized it was best that I did not listen to that song. Though the sound was catchy, the words did not align with my values as a Christian. Although I must admit, this has happened a few times. I would get excited about a song and then realize the words were not what I should be listening to. That is very common in our society. We get so fixated on how it sounds, makes us feel, or even the artist themselves, that we don’t sift out enough of what we should be listening to. We must be careful with what we hear and sing along to. For it can impact us more than we realize. Music is very powerful with us as humans. We can choose to have it nurture our souls, or corrupt them. Friend, as we listen to music, may we really listen to the words; do they align with our values, our morals, our faith? Or do they corrupt those very things? Would God approve?
