We must pray

My heart aches over something that happened in my hometown. Recently, though not all the details have emerged, there was a senseless act of violence. What makes this ordeal harder is that all those involved were young. Most, if not all, in their teens. They had stayed out late to attend an after-prom party. What should have been a fun night resulted in many being injured from gunshot wounds. In an effort to flee, a couple of young people were hit by a car, one badly injured. My heart aches for these young people and their loved ones. Something like this should not have ever happened. Though I haven’t heard of the supposed reason, there will never be one. For senseless violence will always be wrong. We can blame guns, but those meant to do harm will always find a way to do so. So many in my communities’ hearts are heavy right now. As I think of those that were injured, my heart and prayers go out to them, their families and loved ones. Though I also think of the shooters, as it is believed they too were young. I pray justice will be served, though I also pray they get the help they desperately need. The enemy seeks to destroy, and it is always so hard to hear when young people, especially, are affected by the enemies’ plans to do harm. Friend, this isn’t just something that happened in my community. This is something that has been happening in so many places. So much violence, so much hate. We must pray for one another and especially pray for our young people. This world needs God. May we raise our children to know Him, how to walk with Him and set the example ourselves. May we tell others of God and work together to stand against the enemy. Friend, this world is not what it used to be. There is violence in places we would not expect. May we stand firm in our faith, help others with theirs and pray continually. God holds the victory and He is just. May we pray for those involved and pray for our world.

We must pray

Galatians 6:2 NIV

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Romans 12:15 NIV

Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

Matthew 5:44 NIV

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Ephesians 6:12 NIV

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 6:18 NIV

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
