Our greatest friend

I have had friends over the years that I thought would stay close in my life and we’d be great friends forever. I didn’t know that some friends are only meant for chapters. But then a new chapter comes and some are not meant to be in the next. Some of these friends we just drifted apart. Then there were some that chose to make life choices I don’t agree with, so I parted with them. Some I still connect with from a distance as we root each other on, but we’re just living different lives. A special part of the journey of life is the people you get to love along the way. I have learned that not every friendship is meant for every chapter of our lives though. Some of those friends that I no longer spend time with are good people, we just grew up and life got busy. Some are not necessarily bad people, just ones that don’t always make the best choices that I need to guard my heart from. Other ones, we still talk fondly of one another, time just got away. Though through all those chapters I am grateful to have shared them with these friends, even if for a few chapters. I am grateful to God for them. I look back fondly on those memories. Though through all of the friends that have come and gone, I have always had a constant friend; God. In fact, He has always been a better friend to me, than I have to Him. I am so very grateful that He has always been in my every chapter, even when I wasn’t nurturing our friendship like I should have. He continued to nurture, pursue and love me. As He continues to do. What a friend we have in Him, who goes through every chapter in our lives, consistently loving us beyond what we can imagine, and even deserve. I think back to all those friends and I smile and I am grateful to God for them. I look at the past too, and I know that God was with me. I look at today, and I am grateful for Gods constant friendship. I look to the chapters ahead, and I don’t know what they hold. But I do know, God will be there too. Eternally. Our greatest friend.
