My youngest son wanted to build a fort, I did not see why not, so he did. I helped him and all together it was a team effort. Now in the middle of my living room is a cool fort and in the dining room no chairs. I could not help but to chuckle when my husband got home, confused as to what happened to all the chairs. After sending him to the living room, he knew. My son asked to sleep in his fort and we let him. You would think by his expression of joy in the fort that we just gave him a grand present. Though he is much more impressed with his fort; built with imagination, quality time and Fun! There sure is something beautiful about the lens of imagination in a child’s eyes. The gratitude in even the small stuff. The joy of a small tent in the middle of the living room.
Friend, I share this with you all as a reminder, like it is for me. For often as adults, we forget to find our joy in what God supplies. Find joy in the blessings that He gives us. The big stuff, all the way to the small stuff. As I watched my son use what we had on hand to make something fun out of little; I realized that I need to do the same at times. Instead of thinking about just the hard, to find joy in what’s around me. Most of all, whose around me. Not only was a cool tent built using the most basic of things; but quality time was spent with a boy and his mom.
Life is not about more things my friend; but enjoying the blessings we already have. Finding our joy in what God graciously provides and most importantly, enjoying it with those we love. Like making a tent in the middle of your living room floor.
