Watch the lyrics

Have you ever listened to a song and really liked it; only to realize the lyrics are not something you should be listening to? I have found myself liking songs that have a great sound, but then realizing the words go against God. It is easy to be lulled in with certain musical melodies. The sound so attracting it brings you in; though the words, should be bringing us out, of that song. There have been some songs I was unsure of the words, only to look them up and be put off by what the song was really conveying. Friends, music is a wonderful thing, when the words being sang have good valued meaning to them. Music is also powerful; it seems to reach deep inside of us and connect us to emotions and help us get through things or just bring us joy and peace. It has the ability to soothe minds and comfort hearts. The ability to sing praises and bring forth more love. On the flip side, like words, lyrics can wound and hinder our relationship with God. The difference between what we say and what gets sang is we feel more when we sing it. It is easy to be persuaded, even subconsciously through the lyrics that go against God. I have heard music normalize things that are wrong. It is easy to sing a song, until we actually look up the lyrics. Friend, today as we turn on our music playlist, may we turn our eyes on the words. Are they helping our relationship with God or are they hindering it? For the most beautiful music are those with words that build; not those that tear down what God is trying to build inside of us.
