Cellphones

Cellphones are very nice, and in some regards, a necessity, to have in today’s world. With that being said, there are some definite drawbacks. One that I really find to be true is how if we are not careful, they almost become tethered to us. We feel pressured and obligated to answer every notification, every message, every email, every phone call. It can almost be all too consuming and overwhelming. Not to mention the temptation to constantly check social media, at times, this taking us from other things. Like loved ones, the outdoors, quality time, projects, chores and responsibilities and most importantly, time with God. Now I am grateful for my phone and I do believe it is important to have one. However, I also believe, we need to not allow it to consume us. There are times where I won’t respond to my messages, I won’t answer my phone and I will just ignore it. Now I will check to make sure it’s nothing immediate or important, and if it’s not, I address it when I am ready. Our phones are a tool, not an organ and a part of us. Friend, so many of us are too attached to these devices. May we learn to use them purposefully and not allow them to take us from things, people that matter most, and most of all, our faith. May we ask God to help us.
