When I was a young girl, my dad was involved in a pretty bad car crash. He had been working a lot of hours, it was third shift, and he was consumed by exhaustion. Although he didn’t realize just how much so. He had been coming home from work, it was a little bit of a drive until home, and he went down a decent sized hill. It was there where he fell asleep behind the wheel. His car went forward down that hill, landing into a bunch of trees. The whole roof got caved in. In particular, the whole passenger side was completely smashed in, from hitting the trees. The car was completely totaled. My dad, by God’s grace, was able to get out his door somehow, with only an injury of a shard of glass in his foot. My dad said that it was a miracle that he was ok. Though not only him, but that no one else was involved. After that, my dad wouldn’t drive tired anymore. He learned to listen to his body. He didn’t want to take that risk ever again. It was one of those moments that I am certain will stay with him forever. Those moments where you know things would have been so much worse, if God was not there. If He did not shelter us from the things that try to cave us in. The things that could seriously hurt us. I don’t know if God sent His angels during those late-night hours or if it was just God Himself, but I am grateful that my dad survived and with very little injury. Friend, we cannot do life without God, His security, His provisions, His mercy, His grace, His love in our time of need and always. I talked to my dad recently about this and I can still hear the shock and awe, many years later, in my dad’s voice at the goodness of God.
