Work hard

When I was a little girl, my mom owned a cleaning business. At this time, she cleaned houses.  Sometimes she’d be given permission to bring me along. I was an unusual kid and actually enjoyed going with. I liked the extra time with my mom and being told what a good job I did. For I genuinely helped. My mom made sure to always inspect my work! She would tell me to get the corners, clean the edges, get behind the toilet. We did not just wipe things down; we cleaned and scrubbed. My mom never told me I had to come along, I wanted to. It was a time of unique bonding, while also teaching me life skills. How to clean good and most of all, how to work hard. We live in a world filled with handouts. I’m not talking about those that genuinely need assistance. I’m referring to those that expect the world to do it all for them. In the Bible, it tells us to work as if doing it for the Lord. I always watched my mom work so hard. It’s a godly character trait of hers, that she also taught me. Even though I am a homemaker these days, this still applies. I strive to be a homemaker, the best that I can. For God has given me this opportunity to care for my family, and I will do so the best that I am able. Friend, may wherever or whatever it may be that God has called us to do, may we work hard in doing it. May we put forth our best, as if doing it for the Lord. May we not expect the world to do everything for us. For there is truly something special when we’ve done a job well done. As if doing it for the Lord, Himself. I think fondly back to those days cleaning with my mom, and I am grateful that she taught me what hard work looks like.

Work hard

Colossians 3:23-24 NIV

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
