Rising above it

There is a YouTuber named Rob Kenney, perhaps you have heard of him? I recently found out about him after reading an article. When he was a young teenager, his dad ran out on him, leaving him fatherless. Not only did he have that absence of a father, he wasn’t shown how to do things most fathers teach their kids. Instead of falling victim to self-pity, he chose to be different than his dad and be present and a great one for his own children! When his kids were grown and during the covid pandemic, he did something wonderful with his time. He started a YouTube channel called, “Dad, how do I?” This channel is one that teaches those that never had a chance to learn basic skills from their own dad. Essentially, making him an internet dad. He has helped many people not only learn new skills, but for those in need of a dad, making them feel like they have one. Offering comfort and encouragement and maybe an unexpected way. I love this man’s story. He could’ve become like his dad, he could’ve used it as an excuse and played a victim. But he didn’t.  He rose above it, learning those skills and helping others in ways he never got. Friend, God is really using his situation to empower and to love others. We can choose to play a victim of our circumstances or we can rise above them and make a positive difference. May we ask God to help us take our hard parts and turn them into something beautiful.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
