My first Christmas when I was a single mom was something quite unexpectedly beautiful. I didn’t have much money to give my kids much of anything that year. I had bills to pay, mouths to feed and presents were a luxury that I couldn’t really afford. It broke my heart that my kids wouldn’t have much of anything from me. Yes, I know it’s not about the gifts, it’s about Jesus and that’s the best gift. And my kids have always been pretty grateful too. Though naturally like most moms, I wanted to have gifts so badly under the tree for them to open. Well, God being God was very gracious to me. One day, not too far from Christmas, a blessing came my way. I had been working at my salon at the time and a client I never knew slipped some money in my hand and he told me not to look until he was gone. In my hand, was enough to give my kids gifts on Christmas morning. I don’t know how he knew that I needed it. But something tells me God had His hand in it. When Christmas morning came, I watched the smiles on their faces and my heart was so grateful. It wasn’t that a ton of money was spent, but it was exactly what I needed to bring them added joy on Christmas morning. Friend, of course it isn’t about the gifts. Though it was just another reminder of how God looks out for us. Many times, going above and beyond for us. I will always remember that gift. I don’t know the man who so generously gave, though I appreciate him gifting it. More than that though, I am reminded that God is so gracious and so very kind. He owes us nothing, yet He gives so kindly. Christmas is coming up again soon and I am grateful for everything He has so kindly given. May we all give what we can, when we can, for just as God always gives generously to us all.
