Into His safety

Alone and about seventeen driving down a long stretch of road. Very little streetlights lined this road and darkness felt all too consuming. I was led by my yellow headlights driving forward. Though I was young and I had not yet learned the importance of not allowing my car to get so low on fuel. I had been coming home from youth group. When suddenly my car began to slow down, the fuel had dropped too low. As I sat in that seat, pulled to the side of the road, I prayed. These were times where I had yet to get my first phone and the only way for help was to walk forward in the dark. I was much too afraid as I understood the danger in it. So, I prayed fervently, just a little farther God please get me to the gas station. A way’s up ahead I knew there was one, but still, much too far away in the night, especially as a young teenage girl. My car started and it went a little farther. This happened a few times. It would stop, then I’d pray and my car would move a little more forward. I don’t recall exactly how many times or the exact distance. Though I remember that I was alone in the dark and like the light from my headlights, God guided me to safety, bit by bit in His way and in His time. I did make it safely, in my vehicle, to the gas station that night. I felt relieved and safe. I knew that God, despite my recklessness with my gas tank, somehow on E gave me just what I needed to safely guide me toward home. A song at the gas pump played, “God is watching us from a distance.” I smiled both relief, as I knew that He surely was, and gratitude for His looking out for me. There are times friends, where the road ahead maybe seems dark, bleak or uncertain, but when we cry out to God He hears and He listens. With His light and His love, He will always be the light we need to guide us back into His safety where His love can always be seen.
