Truly knowing God

Has God become routine

A simple gesture of time with Him

Instead of actually connecting

To our dearest friend

Has God become a symbol

Or a character trait

To hide our brokenness

From the sin we hate

Do we open the Bible

And really read His word

Or do we just listen

To the things we’ve heard

Do we understand doctrine

Do we let the words in us fully sink

That it seeps into our soul

On how we live, love and think

Many say they love God

This they do proclaim

But do we know Him personally

Or only know His name

I don’t want to wonder

If He was just routine

But that I knew Him

His love was always seen

And someday He too

Will have my name written in His book

And that when He calls me Home

My soul too He took

Truly knowing God

John 17:3 NIV

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

1 John 2:3-6 NIV

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for Godis truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Philippians 3:10-12 NIV

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
