I read a story recently of a young man that got injured in a skateboarding incident. This young man needed a doctor. However, he needed a ride to get to some help. He decided to call an uber. The man that picked him up took him from an urgent care, to an ER, where the young man was ultimately sent. This young man had no family in the area and would have to be left alone. However, the uber driver decided to take the day off of work, to spend his day with the young man so he wouldn’t be left alone. Ultimately, the uber driver spent about six hours in the hospital with this complete stranger, even refusing payment for the ride! In the end, the young man’s grandma traveled, making it to the hospital just as he was being discharged for a broken wrist. The uber driver though not taking payment, agreed to be treated for dinner as payment from the young man’s grandma. Both the driver and the young man developed an unexpected friendship, all because the driver prioritized kindness. To add to this, it was during a hard time in that young man’s life and the kindness of the uber driver, brought joy and comfort when he needed it most. Friend, this is the kind of people that God has called us to be. To look out for one another in love, even strangers. May we prioritize kindness above greed and spend our time being there for one another.
