Spotlight on God

There was a time when I was a young teen, I wanted to be famous. To be so popular, have money and stardom. At one point I wanted to be an actress. Then there was the time my friend and I wanted to create our own girl band. We wanted to be famous singers. Not only were those dreams at the time unrealistic, I am also grateful that they didn’t happen. The things that I use to place value on then have changed exponentially over the years. Now the idea of being famous seems awful. All the attention, pressure, corruption and lack of privacy. Although not in all avenues, generally speaking, it often tends to not be an ideal career. It also has a way of placing vanity over character. More than just this, when I was young, I sought my worth in others’ opinions of me. These days, I seek my worth in who God says that I am. It is not about me like it used to be. These days its about my faith, my family and loving others better. Some people figure this out right away. For some of us though, age brings about a new perspective. Also, when we truly begin walking with the Lord, it becomes less about ourselves and more about God. More about loving Him and walking with Him, more about loving others and placing them before ourselves. I know not all people that are famous actors or musicians are bad or selfish. Some even use their platforms for good and for His glory. However, sadly, there are many that get lost in vanity and find their worth in the world, which has a way of leading to destruction. Friend, may we not find our value in the world and what people say about us. May we always find our worth in God. May the spotlight be less on ourselves, and more on our Creator.

1 Peter 2:9 NIV

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
