As Christians it can be hard to be surrounded by those that live their lives in a way that goes against our morals, values, and beliefs. I recently had this talk with my children. I told them that they need to see the person, as the person, not their choices. For even though we disagree with the behavior, we are choosing to see their hearts and not their sin. I have learned over the years that when I do this, I am better able to see through the lens of love. I also told my children we don’t need to support the behavior, but just love the person. It isn’t always easy to live in a world that’s so accepting of many behaviors that don’t align with our faith. Though God calls us to love. That does not mean support said behaviors, but just see the person lovingly, as God would. As the saying goes, hate the sin, love the sinner. I know many people who do things I don’t support, but they’re not bad people. Just as I sometimes sin, and I’m not bad. Neither are they; they’re just making bad choices. May we boldly walk in our faith and following His word. However, in doing so, may we do so lovingly.
