Don’t be too busy

I saw this quote by Corrie Ten boom today; “If the devil cannot make us bad, he will make us busy.” I can see so much truth in her statement. We may be doing our best to live righteously, but then we can also fall into this pattern of nonstop busyness. We get too busy to nurture our spouses, our children, and our loved ones like we should. Worse of all, we get too busy to really be fully engaged in His word and devoting enough time with God. Recently, my family has been super busy. We always make time for devotionals every evening before bed. However, in all honesty, devotionals have felt rushed at times. We’re all so tired, that we just go through the motion quickly and get it done. That’s not how it should be. When life keeps us too busy, we get too busy for the things that matter most; those that matter most. Friend, I get it. It is hard to slow down at times. Life can be demanding. Though we must remember to not be too busy, for those we hold nearest and dearest; especially our faith.

Luke 10:38-42 NIV

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
