When my brother and I were very young, we took a trip with my parents and grandparents. Though what started out as fun, became potentially very dangerous. We had taken a ferry boat to an island. My dad had decided to sit inside the ferry with my grandparents. Meanwhile, my mom agreed to let my brother and I ride on the top of the ferry with her. Though we didn’t know what had laid ahead. For as our ferry got farther in the water on the way to the island, the wind picked up. The waves got big, the current strong. It didn’t help that the driver of the ferry was young, and decided to race another ferry. It was too late to get up and move where it was safer. So, my mom put my brother on one side of her, and myself on the other. She locked her legs around each one of ours and her arms as well. She held tight to us, refusing to let us be swept away in the wind and current. She held us like this until we made it to the island and were safe. We were safe, in my mother’s arms.
There are times in life where the current seems rough. We wonder how we’re going to manage. We wonder if we can withstand the rough waters. Though I have found that when we hang tight to God, He holds us even tighter. He grabs hold of us and carries us through to safety. We can be comforted in knowing, we are not alone and we are protected. Just as my brother and I were comforted in safety in our mother’s arms, we can be assured we can always find safety in our Father’s. For truly He will carry us through all the tides of life.

Psalm 46:1-3 NIV
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
