I don’t recall my age, though I know I was quite small
My youth group instructor had a song meant for us all
“This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine”
We sang with a great cause
We sang it loud and clear I’m sure it rang throughout the halls
I remember the pride I felt, with that light of mine
For it seemed to hold everything, that I needed to find
I did all the motions, that the enemy would not blow out my light
I felt courageous in my faith, for it would help me in any plight
With a smile on my face as the kids and I sang so loud and strong
I think it’s safe to say, we all did sing along
Though as I got older sometimes my light began to fade
As though I forgot the sung promises that I had once made
“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine”
Though at times it grew dim
For I focused on myself and at times forgot about Him
Without my light, I began to lose my way
As the enemy grew closer, he was hard to keep at bay
Then I found my light again, and I wanted it to shine so bright
That I would always be guided by God’s light
Not lost in the darkness, with it snuffed out
I really realized what the song was all about
“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, this little of mine I’m gonna let it shine”
But to do this God must be on my heart and mind
For He is the one who ignites my soul
And keeps me safe and makes me whole

Light of mine
John 15:4 NIV
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
John 8:12 NIV
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
