The next best thing

On the floor were the last two delicious peanut butter balls. Likely now covered in animal hair and surely now deemed inedible. Standing above them was my youngest son, apologizing. Having much too much to carry in his hands, he had dropped the bowl with the rest of the treats. My husband and I immediately reassured him that it was ok. My husband helped him pick up some of the mess and my son got the broom. We explained to him that it was totally ok, but just to clean up the rest of the mess. So, my son grabbed the broom and got to it. Accidents happen and we reassured him we weren’t mad. Though we were proud of him for being accountable and cleaning it all up. Friend, we are human. Sometimes we make mistakes. Though its how we react to them and what we do to make it better. God is always ready to forgive and to help us lovingly clean things up. Though we must hold ourselves accountable and be ready to make things right. When we make a mistake, whether on accident or we just made a poor choice, may we go to God. May we pray for His help and guidance to set things right. In doing so, may we also do the next best thing.

1 John 1:9 NIV

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
