There is a memory that stands out to me from when I was very young. My mom, dad, brother and I went to this big outdoor picnic somewhere. Admittingly, I don’t recall what it was for. I just remember being there and having fun. Whomever had hosted the event had it arranged for the kids to eat hot dogs, while the adults would be served delicious steak. Now hot dogs are good, but steak, most would agree are more desirable. I remember my parents offering up their steak to my brother and I, and they would eat the hot dogs. They were more concerned with us having something better than themselves. I don’t think I fully realized the sacrifice, however small, until I was older. I also don’t remember what I ultimately chose to eat. However, I remember that my parents were willing to give us something better, even if they had something less. It was more than just about steak and hotdogs. It was about the sacrifice we give to those we love. It got me thinking about how God loves us so much, how He made the ultimate sacrifice. May we live in such a way that we love enough to put others before ourselves. Maybe I should have my parents over for a steak dinner. Yeah, I think I will very soon.

Philippians 2:3-4 NIV
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
