Grandpa never liked to waste his food. When he ate it, he ate one thing at a time; seemingly eating each bite in gratitude. I don’t recall any complaints of food. He ate what was served and given to him. Even if he was full, his plate was always left empty. Grandpa didn’t grow up with much as a young boy. He grew up on a farm where they didn’t have much. He served in World War 2, where you ate what was given. Even as he was older and he had options of better food, he was grateful for what was served. I guess he had figured out that when you eat with a grateful heart it always tastes good; or maybe that you eat, because you need it. He believed you shouldn’t waste a meal given, for it’s a blessing. We live in a world that is pretty ungrateful. Not always appreciative of what is served or what it given. When I think of my grandpa, I am reminded that we are blessed with everything we’re given. Even beyond the plate. Friend, may we keep a grateful heart at all times and savor all that we are given. For truly all we have is a blessing from God.
