I sat with the old

And I learned a lot

For the wisdom they gave

The things that they taught

They told stories of

Experiences learned

Respect was something

They had earned

They fearlessly said

What was on their mind

Though not forgetting

To still be kind

They said what was wrong

With the world today

How it so needs God

How we must pray

How it is so different

Then a world now long gone

How we must not give in

And keep our faith strong

For the end is coming

They have seen the signs

They often wonder

Is it time

Will someday soon

We hear that trumpet call

For they see the signs

As the world begins to fall

They say it is so backward

From years long ago

It is amazing what the old do know

I sat with the young

Who have so much to learn

So much respect

Yet to be earned

So much wisdom they

Are learning everyday

As we guide them along

And we pray

That they will be different

From this world in which they grow

That they will learn wisdom

For this is so important to know

That they will not conform

To where this world is headed to

That they will grow in faith

In all they say and do

For though we cannot change

Everything broken in this world full of sin

We can guide our children

To let God in

I sat with the world

That looks much different than the one I knew

So much different from

The one in which I grew

As I sat, I knew I couldn’t change

The direction in which this world is going

I knew that I could still change

The way in which I was growing

For I could listen to the old

And grow wiser with my days

As I guided the young

And I showed them, God’s ways

For I cannot change everything

But if I could help another

When this world is over

To live with God forever

I sat with God

And was reminded of His care

That He would help us

Navigate here

That someday He would take us

From this worldly sin

That we must just believe in Him

Walk with Him daily

Learn His ways

Trust Him through it all

And give Him praise

In this life

The greatest we can achieve

Is to follow our Savior

And in Him believe

I sat with my thoughts

And I learned in this life too

The very best thing

that we can do

Is learn wisdom from the old

Pass it on to the young

And hold tight to God

Until this life is done

Heaven is our hope

Our eternal destination

With God’s love and grace

our salvation

If we sit with life there is much

To see and be found

Though I find when things

Are upside down

That someday God will set things right

We must just carry on

And fight this good fight

Someday we shall hear that trumpet sound

How lovely it will be,

To be heaven bound
