A complete stranger said something to me the other day in ignorance. His purpose I would guess was to make himself appear cool in front of his peers. I just continued forward choosing not to give attention to his remark. There was a part of me that wanted to respond in self-defense, but I knew it was better just to let it go. So, I did a quick vent to my loved one and moved forward from it. Sometimes when people are unkind to us it is so easy to go on the defense. Even when our points are valid. I will admit I am still working on this. I am learning to practice what I know. That there is definitely a time and place to speak; we must choose wisely when, how, and if necessary. I will be honest the young man’s comment was not worth anything being said in return. My lack of response was the best response. I think of Jesus and how hard it must have been to not want to respond with anger. I mean to our standards; He would have been validated to. Although Jesus’ responses were always handled perfectly when dealing with difficult and unkind people. He either moved forward from them with grace or spoke lovingly to the offender to educate them, teach, and guide them. That must have been so difficult. Although He knew that the best way to deal with difficult people, was from a place of love.
Words are powerful my friend. How we choose to use them can wound or heal. Sometimes choosing to be quiet, is all that needs be said. God sees everything. He knows hearts. He is just. May we remember to choose carefully our reactions to people that are difficult. Before we react, we should pray and think of how Jesus would handle it. Should we even offer a response, if we respond; how should we respond? It is all too easy to give someone a piece of our mind. Although if we want true peace of mind, we have to handle it how He would.
