Music is a special gift. Whether gifted in it ourselves or just having the privilege of enjoying it. I have always found it quite remarkable how even those in which have Alzheimer’s or dementia, many are still able to retain music. Some can still play their favorite instrument, long after they have forgotten much. Many still sing their favorite songs, remembering every lyric, even though they may not remember a loved one’s name. Even through their horrible disease, their ability to hang onto music, comforts their hearts and minds. Though the style of music may have changed through generations, the love for it has not. It has a way about it, which touches our hearts and our minds. Music is pretty powerful. Its effects on us are quite extraordinary. That is why it is so important to be choosy on what we listen to. What are we feeding our hearts and minds with the melodies and the words in which we hear? I believe music is a gift from God. Although not all music is used for the purpose it was given to us for. There is much corruption in what was intended as a gift. Music should create in us goodness, not things in which are ungodly. It is easy to be caught up in a song that is catchy, not realizing the impact of the words being heard. As we go through all the seasons of life, what songs play in our hearts and minds? Are they ones in which create beautiful melodies, do they create peace; or are they ones that corrupt the very part of us that they were meant to nurture? If our memory were to go, what do we play from our hearts and minds? Music that will bring us peace, or ones in which bring about trouble? Friend, may we enjoy the gift of music as a gift from God, not the enemy. May we sing songs that glorify Him and not this world. For when we use music the way that He intended, it is quite a remarkable thing for our hearts and minds to experience.
