There is an artificial white carnation flower that sits in the front dashboard of my vehicle. To most people that see it, it is merely a decorative piece. To me, it is so much more that that. It is a symbol of kindness from a stranger. I received this carnation on my first Mother’s Day as a single mom. I worked that day, as I had needed the money. I missed my boys and the last place that I wanted to be on Mother’s Day, was away from them. Though I carried on with my day, looking forward to seeing my children in the evening. I felt really down that day though. I know my heart was just longing to be home with my children. Then, a nice young-man, came in handing out these pretty artificial carnations. This seemingly simple act, was just what my heart needed that day. I keep this flower in my window as a reminder of kindness and how we should all care for one another.
In this life, we all need an extra dose of kindness. Maybe it is in a sweet, friendly smile, maybe a kind word or gesture. Maybe in an artificial, single white carnation. However it may be that we share kindness, may we just simply do so. For maybe, that is exactly just what that person in which we’re sharing it with, needed.
Everyday God gives us the opportunity to choose how we will treat one another. Will we choose to be kind and loving, like Him? Or do we choose to simply not be. In the world in which we live, we all could all use more kindness. May we go out and be kind to one another, in a world that so very much needs it.
