When I was a teenager, I was coming home from youth group. At that time, the youth group wasn’t too terribly far from my home; however, there was a long stretch of road very little lit and fairly desolate. That day I did not responsibly fill up on gas and I found myself later regretting this. For while driving home my car died on gas. I had completely used up all my fuel. At this point it was late in the evening and dark outside. I knew it would not be safe to get out and walk. Cell phones were not widely used like now and I definitely did not have one. I remember being scared and praying that God would make my car start up and get me just a little further. For up ahead there was a gas station. Just a little further, God, I prayed. God faithfully answered my prayer that night and He did get me to that gas station. I had just enough to bring me to the pump. I remember pumping my gas, feeling so grateful that God got me there safely. When I got back into my car and turned it on, I caught a verse from a song being sung, “God is watching us from a distance.” I was reminded of just how much He truly was. If I had broken down and had to take that long walk by myself, alone in the dark, I do not want to imagine the dangers that could have happened. I am blessed that God was watching out for me. That He is always faithful, even when He does not have to be. I learned a lesson that day to not let my fuel get so low. Mostly though, it was just another reminder, from the many reminders that He gives us; of God’s faithfulness to His children.
Friend, God is there for us. May we reach out to Him. For He does listen to us, even in the dark of night and when we feel stranded. He is faithful and He cares for us. We must go to Him in prayer, knowing His love safely gets us home. If we stop and think of all the times we were in need and God got us through it; those are reminders of His faithful love. Reminders that He truly is watching out for us, always. When we feel like we’re on E, and running low; God’s love will always carry us through.
