I was looking into the mirror the other day, when I noticed a new wrinkle forming around by my mouth. It was discouraging, but then I realized that it was a sign that I liked to smile and it was formed from years of things that brought me joy. I watched an ad for an app that makes people look years younger. It took away their wrinkles, gave the men their hair back and took them back to a time long since passed. Though what they had forgotten was that they were beautiful just as they were. Their age was like a passage through time and an honor to have lived through so many chapters. Though I May not be in any hurry to get more wrinkles before they are due; I know that to live so long is a blessing. That as we age, the wrinkles are just lines that tell a story of a life lived. Though some may have more or less wrinkles; age is something that becomes evident with time, in some way or form.
Friend, if you look in the mirror and you see yourself aging, remember, getting older is a blessing and an opportunity to spend more time on this earth; both with enjoying those we love, gaining wisdom and making a difference for God’s glory. May we look in the mirror with a smile of gratitude for another day at life; even as age starts to make itself known. For though ageing may change the way that we look on the outside; if we learn to live it right, it has a way of adding even more beauty on the inside.
