I used to work an industry where outward beauty was the central focus. We were required to be well-dressed, wear makeup and have our hair just so. I understand professionalism and the career in which I was in; though there was so much emphasis on the outer appearance. The pressure to keep up with it, was not something that I aways desired or what was best for my growing soul. Though like most, I do like dressing up from time to time. I do like looking my best; although sometimes, I want my best to just be me, as is. No make-up, sweatshirt, jeans and a baseball hat or my hair in a messy bun. These days I dress up when appropriate or inspired. Though most of the time, I am dressed like a boy mom, as my husband would put it. As my focus is on nurturing my family and my heart. Although my husband does enjoy seeing me dressed up from time to time, he prefers me just as I am. Friend, this world places so much emphasis on the outside, and little on the in. Although to be clear, there is nothing wrong with wanting to feel like we look our best and being presentable, may we not forget to spend more time on who we are as a person. The amount of money some people spend on making themselves look to a certain standard; could be spent on helping others. The amount of time some spend on making themselves look a certain way, could be more time spent with God, nurturing others and being the people that He has called us to be. Friend, God looks at who we are on the inside and loves us just as we are. So, my friend, go get ready and look your best; but in that process remember, do not get so caught up in looking perfect. You, my friend are beautiful, just as God has made you! When our hearts find our worth in Him and His design, there is a beauty that radiates from deep inside, naturally. Reminding us in which whom we come from, and that beauty illuminates more than any bit of make-up or clothing could ever offer.

1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
