Fleetingness of time

Time, but fleeting sand, in the hourglass of life. A new day on the calendar, then a new month turns over and then suddenly, it is the start of a new calendar year. I look at photographs of my children from just a couple years ago. My oldest is turning from a young boy, to a young man. My youngest looking from a small child, giving way to the face of a big kid. I look in the mirror and I even notice changes in myself. Time truly goes by so swiftly and before we know it, we find ourselves at an age we were not expecting to be at, so soon. I remember when I was young, my elders would inform me that time goes by so very quickly. Of course, when we are young, most of us think that those that we love will stay the same age as we most remember them by and that we, ourselves, will someday grow old, but not for a long time. For when we are young, time seems to operate different, until we are much older. Then something happens as we age and we start to see the swiftness of time more clearly. I measure time the most, in the faces of my children. Friend, I share these thoughts with you for the same reason, I ponder them. In the fleetingness of time, I want to live all that I am given; purposefully, worthwhile and meaningfully, with God in mind. I am sure you too, want to live your life as such. So when we look back, we can see the fullness of our lives. For when a life is lived as God has called, it is truly a life lived to the fullest. When the last grain of sand falls in my hourglass of life, I want to know that I used every bit wisely; just as He has called for me to live.

James 4:14 NIV

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

Romans 14:8 NIV

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

Ephesians 5:15 NIV

Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise,
