Be wise

As my oldest was out on his own adventure with his friends from church, we took our youngest to a local carnival. The weather was perfect for an evening of adventure. There was thunderous noise from all the different sorts of rides, people were shrieking with laughter and we could hear the sound of people chattering while playing carnival games. The smell of carnival food wafted through the air, inviting all to eat their deliciously expensive, unhealthy food. Although it was loud and busy, we had a wonderful time together. I am grateful for the memories that were made. As I am sure my husband and son would say the same. However, it was not just the memorable fun that was shared that stands out to me. As we walked by a few games, there were many game operators trying to get our attention to play their game. There was one that really captured the attention of my son. A man stood there holding darts, with the intention to pop balloons. Yes, like most little boys, how does that not sound like a good time?! We asked the man how much and he replied enthusiastically about the price. Being that my son was using his own birthday money, he decided to voice his concern over the expense and even tried to negotiate. Yes, my son is a negotiator about many things. Although, this may be to his advantage. The man did not budge on the overpriced game, but neither did my son. He told the man politely we were not going to play. After spending some time riding rides, it was decided that one game would be played. Ultimately, we played the dart game. However, it was after careful thought had gone into it. For there was confidence when he played in doing so. My husband and I were happy that he took the time to consider his options, before jumping into something he was not, at the time, sure about. It may seem like a small thing now, but it is an important lesson for his future too. This game operator was charismatic with his pitch to play the game, but our son was wise to make sure of his investment. Friend, it is okay to wait with choices and decisions. I advise praying about said decisions too. Whether small ones, or more importantly, big ones; handle them carefully. Life is an investment and if not handled wisely, can cost greatly.  As we adventure into the world of choices, may we choose to be wise.
