I have an artificial white carnation flower that sits in the window of my vehicle. It is not fancy, though it is pretty. This flower is not just for decoration; but it is, a constant reminder. Years ago, I was having a tough day. This nice young man had come into my salon that I was working at, at the time. He was handing out these flowers to all the moms, as it was Mother’s Day after all. I had been bummed that I was working and not with my children and it felt like such an ordinary day. So as the young man handed out the flowers, I felt a sense of joy. Sadness was replaced, with thoughtfulness and care. My spirit got lifted and I felt more empowered to get through my shift, until I could happily be where I wanted to be; with my little boys. Friend, never underestimate the power of even a small gesture. It has been years and it still sits in my vehicle as a reminder; that even strangers can offer joy. That kindness lingers long after the moment passes. That even one long artificial flower can lift the heart of the receiver. Friend, may we always take the time to share kindness with one another. For God calls us to love one another and how great it is when we take the time to truly share that love in action with others!
