Memorial Day

A soldier heard a calling to join the fight, for a country they so though of

So, they put on the uniform and fought with love

For love of their country, beside their fellow comrade

Leaving loved ones behind, both proud and yet, sad

They knew the risk, though their love was stronger than that fear

So off they fought, in their weapons and gear

They gave up all they had, to keep their country free

For even strangers, such as me

For ones that made it back, their life forever changed

For my freedom, their life would never be the same

For the things they seen and all they endured

Things that go beyond what we have heard

Some soldiers never made it back

Though they leave us with freedom, though them we lack

As we honor those that have fallen

The ones for us, whom heard the calling

May we not get so busy and forget this end of May

The true meaning of Memorial Day

Thank you soldier, for your selfless love

Please know today and always, you are thought of

Greater love has no one than this; to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
